The Killdeer is a North American bird that often nests on flat suburban spaces. It acts
its heart out to protect its babies. If you find a Killdeer nest, give
it tons of space so these dramatic stars can save their strength!

Ursula Vernon wrote a very similar (and amazing) post back when I made this script. Please don’t think there was any thievery – it was simultaneous and we’re pals 🙂 (And possibly telepathic?)

Once while cutting through a large, grassy field, a killdeer threw herself in front of the family Jeep.

She went at it with everything.  If it had been Broadway, it would have been a standing ovation and sold-out shows all season.

And since we didn’t know where her nest was, and we weren’t utter monsters, we had to follow her away so we wouldn’t run over it.  So we rolled slowly after her for what felt like forever, until she started up out of the grass and flew off.

This was over 25 years ago now.  She is probably still telling tales in the afterlife of how she saved her babies from the MASSIVE MONSTROUS BEAST.

Good job, mama.
